Ward 3 meeting with DC Ed Superintendent

February 8, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Ward 3 Community meeting with the Superintendent of OSSE (Office of the State Superintendent of Education).

OSSE’s proposed new state plan for education will be up for discussion, with a special focus on how the plan proposes to rate our schools in order to hold them accountable. This is your chance to make sure the superintendent is fully aware of your views on the plan before OSSE submits its final proposal to the State Board of Education in early March.

The proposal calls for 80% of the rating of K-8 schools to be based just on reading and math test scores. For high schools, the combination of reading and math test scores and graduation rates count for 70%. The remainder is mainly based on attendance and re-enrollment rates. Nothing for arts, civics, social studies, science, the quality of student engagement or what’s more generally called school “climate” or “environment.”

Registration is optional but encouraged – Click here.

Here is a schedule of Ward meetings DC-wide.
