Metro’s contractor reopened the west entrance to the Van Ness entrance last week.
The timeline of the project had called for closing the entrance from February/March 2016 to May while the second long escalator to be replaced was pulled out, and the new escalator parts brought in. The stairs will remain open through the summer while the new escalator is installed.
The stairs will close once more from September to January 2017 for the removal of the third long escalator. And according to Metro, that is the last time the west entrance will be closed for this project.
Metro says the project is on schedule, but its latest timeline suggests this work is actually proceeding more quickly than planned.
