Absentee voting begins today, and early, in-person voting starts on October 22nd. As you prepare to mark your ballots, whether it’s now or on November 6th, be sure to read up on your candidate or candidates for ANC commissioner.
This week, we present the statements of the ANC 3F candidates who responded to our request to tell us about themselves. And we invite you to a meet-and-greet we are hosting for the candidates on Sunday, October 21st from 2-4 p.m. at the Methodist Home.
Why vote? Your ANC commissioner is your go-to person if you are concerned about the condition of your sidewalks, or pedestrian safety, or if you’d like to see more (or fewer) outdoor cafes on Connecticut Avenue, or music in restaurants on the weekends. Read more about what they do.
Adam Tope is running for re-election in ANC 3F01. He is unopposed. Here is his statement:
I was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania and have lived in the DC area since 2002 (other than a year or so in Rochester, NY and Cleveland, OH). I have lived in the District since 2005, previously in Ward 6 and now in Ward 3. I am a 2002 Cornell University graduate with a BS in Business and received my JD, cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center in 2007. I am currently an attorney at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP where I represent hedge fund and private equity investors and sponsors. Prior to practicing as an attorney, I was a media buyer and planner at local advertising agency, Williams Whittle and Associates in Alexandria.
Since moving to the District, I have been active in community issues. I current serve as the Secretary of ANC 3F and a Commissioner for SMD 3F01. Additionally, in 2009, I was selected by Councilmember Mary Cheh to serve as a member of Ward 3’s Census Complete Count Committee. As a committee member, I helped organize the Council’s promotion of the Census to Ward 3 residents, including hanging Census-related signage throughout Ward 3. I also served as a member of the Ward 3 ANC Redistricting Task Force in 2011. I currently serve as the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Block Captain for my block of Reno Rd. and am a delegate of the Ward 3 Democrats.
In my next term, I want to continue to ensure that the ANC runs efficiently and want to ensure that the public is aware of the ANC’s activities, meetings and agendas so there is active community involvement in all of the issues we touch. When I started as a Commissioner, I drastically revamped the way ANC 3F reached out to constituents. I created an ANC web site that has our agenda and minutes (and other information). I actively promote our meetings on area listservs and through other methods. As my constituents know, I’m always happy to email or speak with them on the phone and I take great pride in my responsiveness.
I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of ANC 3F.
