The reconstructed streambed for the Broad Branch tributary of Rock Creek is moving closer to Linnean Avenue. It is quite amazing to see the metamorphosis from a grassy field to a naturalistic stream bed, including a propped-up tree trunk that will serve as a perch for the birds this area is beginning to attract.
Speaking of which, I have not checked on the Ma and Pa mallards I spotted a couple of weeks ago, but hope they are still paddling around.
I do wonder how the wildlife deals with all the noise. Last week I walked past as two Bobcats and one backhoe churned away, moving rocks and dirt. The din was what one could call “loud.”
You can ask the leader of this project for yourself on Sunday, May 4th. Steve Saari, DDOE’s project director, is leading a tour of the site. We’re meeting at 3 p.m., at Linnean Avenue and Broad Branch Road. Hope to see you there!
