Backyard nature: These tigers don’t roar

September 11, 2015 by FHC

From David Cohen, more wonderful photos of the natural world just outside our doorsteps:

I passed colorful fluttering on my daily walks with our dog that seemed to concentrate on a particular corner and bush. At last I brought my camera.

From Erna Marcus, longtime Murch Elementary School teacher and neighborhood naturalist, I learned that I was seeing Eastern tiger swallowtail butterflies. When I looked them up online, I found out their focus was on a butterfly bush, a name I had no trouble remembering! Here are three portraits from that bush.

Some of the other wildlife Cohen has captured with his camera: new life at Broad Branch Stream; fawns and their watchful mother; a barred owl that took a moment to pose.

Tiger swallowtail butterflies recall childhood memories from the Poconos. Thank you, David (and Romeo) for recognizing, capturing and sharing so much beauty.

Have seen those ‘baseball’ fans on the Forest Hills playgroud during a game?
Its amazing! Too bad I couldn’t take a picture.
