Author talk: History of Rock Creek Park

October 18, 2014 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Scott Einberger – A History of Rock Creek Park: Wilderness & Washington, D.C.

From park ranger to volunteer coordinator and interpretive media specialist, Scott Einberger is deeply engaged with Rock Creek Park. His history of this urban green space is similarly multi-faceted, delving into Rock Creek as the site of a Civil War battle, a playground for both presidents and citizens, and the location of the oldest house in the District. (History Press)

A park, a cluster of handsome embassies, a neighborhood—Meridian Hill is all of these and more. In his multilayered history of one of Washington’s prominent landmarks, Stephen R. McKevitt, a lifelong Washingtonian, looks back to the nineteenth-century mansion built by Commodore David Porter (1780 – 1843) and traces its changing uses through the decades. (History Press)
