History Talk: “Finding Reno”

Ft. Reno Park and Alice Deal Middle School occupy land that was a mixed-race town until the 1920s. The neighborhood, called Reno or Reno City was a remnant of rural DC, and it threatened wealthy whites who were seeking out the modern, exclusively white suburbs that had grown up around it. Neil Flanagan, the author of a 2017 Washington City Paper article on the community, will explore how research found missing links and national connections.
