A new purpose for Days Inn parking structure, the end of a streatery, and more news from ANC 3F’s Nov. 18 agenda

November 12, 2025 10 Comments

ANC meetings often make news. Sometimes ANC meeting agendas do, too.

Take, for example, the agenda for ANC 3F’s meeting on Tuesday, November 18th (below). Note the agenda item about 3415 Yuma Street NW. That’s the parking structure behind the Days Inn, and you might recall that the hotel’s operator put the property up for sale last year.

It seems there’s been movement on that front, and a real estate attorney is scheduled to appear at the meeting to discuss plans for the site.

See also the addendum to the agenda. Van Ness Main Street shared with the ANC that District Fringe will return to Van Ness next year, Dog Haus intends to open in December, and that the streatery used by Rosemary Bistro Cafe will be dismantled on November 30th.

(Forest Hills Connection is an editorially independent program of Van Ness Main Street.)

And DC Water shared another milestone in the sewer work that’s been keeping Albemarle Street east of Connecticut Avenue closed to car traffic: the installation of a new manhole is complete.

By the way, the ANC meeting on the 18th is on Zoom only. The ANC’s October meeting at Forest Hills Senior Living was its first using a hybrid format since early 2020, and the commission wants to do more next year.

Where will the car rental business go if they sell the garage? At present Avis has used the open lot to store some cars. Is anyone paying attention to this business or is it clossing?

It is unfortunate that Avis closed. There are few choices nearby for car rentals–DCA, H Street, NE, Union Station. Has anyone found a closer alternative?

We recently discovered (quite accidentally) that Budget plans to open an outpost at 4215 Connecticut on November 20.

4215 Connecticut Avenue is the parking garage next to Pills Plus.

Correct. We are seeking more details but it appears the rental office will be accessible via the garage or from the second floor (above Pill Plus). It was previously a nail salon.

Enterprise has one branch just off River Road, near the intersection of Little Falls Parkway, and another in downtown Bethesda in the same complex as the Jeep dealership and PetSmart.

Why is the parking being dismantled even though the hotel seems to be operational?

The short answer is that Days Inn did not need so many parking spaces. The long answer is linked above and here: https://www.foresthillsconnection.com/news/the-van-ness-days-inn-intends-to-sell-its-adjacent-parking-structure-for-redevelopment/

If they are going to build apartments on that site hopefully they will keep the parking structure to go with the residential structure. There is no room on the street for more parking. The buildings in that block were built before parking was required for apartments so all they have is a small lot in the back of the buildings. No where near enough spaces for the buildings there now. Do not add more apartments without keeping the parking garage to go with them.
