“Adopted” planters brighten alley behind Bread Furst

July 21, 2017 by FHC

by Kathy Sykes

Large flower pots have been placed in the alley out back of Bread Furst (4434 Connecticut Avenue). And last Sunday, people were invited to “adopt” one.

The new caretakers will water, weed and eventually add plants to the containers of flowers and herbs selected to attract pollinators such as butterflies and bees. The planters also serve to beautify the alley and give apartment-dwelling neighbors a little place to share the joys of gardening.

The adoptive caretakers named and labeled their charges, some with their names: the Allen Family, Nici’s nest, Fatima & Moulay, Theo’s Thyme, Lisa & Mary.
Others were more fancifully named: The Little Plot, Rina Boo, Suga-Bopya, Love Me Do, Forget-Me-Not. This one is Little Taipei.

A few orphan planters remain without caretakers. If you wish to adopt one, stop by Bread Furst and ask for Eun Yim.
