Representatives for the Metropolitan Police Department and the Van Ness Days Inn are to appear at the February 15th ANC 3F meeting to provide an update on the recent shootings at the hotel.
The last public update on the January 27th shootings was on January 28th, when DC MPD Chief Robert Contee identified the 20-year-old Waldorf woman who died, and said the people in the room knew each other “for the most part.”
This will also be the first public comment from Jamie Howser, the regional director of operations at Coakley & Williams Hotel Management, aside from a statement on the 27th offering prayers for the victims. Coakley & Williams manages the Van Ness Days Inn.
Other agenda items include resolutions on traffic calming in Forest Hills and on Connecticut Avenue. Mayor Bowser and DDOT in December signed off on the Connecticut Avenue bike lanes project, but the planning alone will take at least 18 months, and the ANC is asking that DDOT expedite other traffic calming measures to address speeding and other reckless driving behaviors. (Documents referenced in the Forest Hills agenda item below had not been posted to ANC3F.com as of this writing.)
The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15th. Here’s the full draft agenda:

Green Eyeshades says
The Washington Post published an interview with a DDOT person a week ago, which included this Q&A:
“Q: What is the progress on the Connecticut Avenue bike lanes?
“A: We are hoping to begin the design this year and complete the design next year. It’s a long corridor. It probably will be the longest protected bike lane by some measure in the District. The construction will be sometime in spring of 2024 into spring of 2025.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/transportation/2022/02/03/dc-protected-bike-lanes/
Maybe the ANC could ask DDOT whether the timeframe for construction of 2024-2025 is new.
Has there been a delay already in the schedule for actually building our new protected bike lane?
DDOT or DC Council told us a month or so ago that the final design is not yet finished and won’t be done for another “18 months.” Measuring 18 months from the end of December 2021 would put the completion of final design at June 2023.
So why is actual construction not going to begin until “spring of 2024”? That would be an unexplained delay of at least eight months, if “spring” begins in March.
David Cristeal says
I believe the 18 month design phase phase you refer to commences in 2022, not in 2021, and then there would be a bid process … so a 2024-2025 construction phase would fit that broad schedule.
Stay tuned, we / ANC 3F and its Streets & Sidewalks Committee has been in contact with DDOT staff on this matter. DDOT anticipates getting their Community Advisory Committee (CAC) process up and running again soon and a community meeting this spring to explain the process.
We’re excited about the next phase of this process and will need continued community feedback to make sure we help DDOT get the design right for all of us.

video of the February 15 meeting is already up on YouTube:

I appreciate this faster-than-usual posting. The video is just shy of three hours long so I’m not sure where in those three hours we will find our favorite topics.
Green Eyeshades says
before the four-minute mark, a Commissioner added to the agenda and emergency resolution asking Councilmember Mary Cheh to take some action against the tagging and pruning of trees in the Soapstone Valley. So that issue will be in the video at some point.
