The previous version of this article was written to promote ANC 3F’s May 16th meeting. WMATA did not attend. The article has been further updated to include the new deadline for public comments.
WMATA has created a draft bus network, one that it says would “better meets our region’s needs.” And it’s accepting public comments on its “Better Bus” initiative through June 12th.
You can see the proposed bus network in action on this interactive map, as well as compare existing bus lines with the proposed routes. Connecticut Avenue, for example, would become a high frequency corridor. An L2 replacement (the 102) would run along the avenue between the Farragut North and the DC line, without the trip through Adams Morgan, and with an extension into downtown Bethesda. The 104 would follow today’s 42 bus route through Mount Pleasant and Adams Morgan, but would start at the Van Ness Metro station, and instead of heading west at Farragut Square to Foggy Bottom, it would head east to Union Station.
Another thing you can see on the map is other people’s comments. You can leave yours on the map as well, take this online survey, attend a webinar, or give your feedback at in-person Better Bus events. You can find more information at betterbus.wmata.com.
Ward 3 Council member Matt Frumin is also collecting comments on the bus route proposals via this form.
