ANC 3F’s 2/18 Meeting: Murch School Modernization

February 12, 2014

ANC 3F will consider a resolution to support the full funding of renovations planned for Murch Elementary when it meets next Tuesday, February 18th. The meeting will be at the Methodist Home (4901 Connecticut) at 7:30 p.m.

Murch’s main building was designed for 488 students when it was constructed 85 years ago. Nearly 630 students are enrolled there now, and at current growth rates, 700 could enroll for the 2014-2015 school year.

Meanwhile, parent leaders at Murch (from the Home and School Association (HSA), the Local School Advisory Team (LSAT), and the School Improvement Team (SIT)) are concerned that they’ve heard nothing in recent months about the long-planned modernization, which as of last spring was set to begin in 2015. And they’re concerned that the $32 million earmarked for the project will be inadequate to house future students, if enrollment growth continues at current rates. They recently delivered letters to Mayor Gray and DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson asking them to address these and other funding concerns.

Can make the meeting? All of ANC 3F’s meetings are streamed live at livestream.anc3f.us, and they’re also available for playback later.

The agenda below is subject to change. Please contact the commissioners with your questions.
