Another case of stolen wheels. Not the car. The wheels.

October 17, 2024

by Marlene Berlin

A few weeks ago, I spotted the above car by the Owl’s Nest on Gates Road. As you can see, it was missing its wheels.

I sent the photo plus the vehicle’s license plate information to the Metropolitan Police Department. “We are looking into it,” I was told.

How frequently do wheels get stolen? Popville.com headlines each DC incident as a “Helluva Way to Wake Up,” and it has posted hundreds (perhaps thousands?) of them.

In 2022, Popville published advice from MPD on preventing this from happening.

For more positive car content, check out Popville’s “Sweet City Ride” series.

On Monday night/Tuesday morning, all eight wheels were stripped from two white, identical Hondas that were parked on that one block street that runs from Albemarle (one block in from Connecticut Avenue) up to the back side of the Forest Hills Park on Brandywine. Police were taking down the information from what appeared to be the car owners when I passed by on foot. (Perhaps someone else posted about this theft, but it was not me.)

I really wish this site would not give free advertising to Popville, which is a blight on DC local news. The guy who runs that site does zero actual reporting himself, instead stealing items from other news gatherers or relying upon reader submissions, which he does not make any attempt to verify. He’s simply the laziest “journalist” in DC, and you should not be propping him up.

Different perspective….I never thought of him as trying to be a journalist. I think of it more as a community bulletin board of sorts. I’m a regular reading and find out about so many things I wouldn’t know about otherwise!
