Where can you relax and enjoy the summer months – while sharpening your academic skills and getting a jump start on the next school year?

That would be Summer at Burke, based at Edmund Burke School, just down Connecticut Avenue from the Van Ness Metro station.

From mid-June to late August, Burke offers a low-stress, positive environment for academic, athletic, and creative pursuits. Programs enroll a mix of current Burke students and students from schools around the DC area. Most programs are one to two weeks long, serving as an ideal complement to other summer plans, including:

  • Outdoor Explorers (Grades 6-8): Spend a week in June going on outdoor adventures in nearby National Parks and exploring environmental topics.
  • Fashion Design (Grades 7-11): Work with Sew Cecily for a week in July to sketch, design, and create works of art from fabric.
  • College Essay Writing (Grades 11-12): Get a head start on selecting your topic and fine-tuning your essay before the year even begins.
  • 7th & 8th Grade Math Brush Up: Start the next school year with confidence by reviewing algebraic expressions and one/two-step linear equations from August 22-26.

For students seeking an intensive experience, Summer at Burke offers for-credit courses in Advanced Biology, Geometry, and Intro. to Computer Science. In a small class, with experienced faculty, students will cover a full year of material in math or science – including hands-on labs.
