August in the Neighborhood: Go deeper than beach reads, try Hillwood’s trivia night, learn how to square dance

Cool down with ice cream at Peirce Mill: Friends of Peirce Mill demonstrates ice cream-making methods used 200 years ago. And when show-and-tell is over, kids get a free treat (August 2nd, rain date August 3).

Go deeper than beach reads: Politics and Prose offers online classes on topics including writing, literature, and politics (of course). Its August schedule features the poetry of Nikki Giovanni, artificial intelligence in science fiction, and the craft of the contemporary memoir.

Trivia night, Hillwood museum style: Know a thing or two about classic Hollywood? You will lead your team to trivia night glory at Hillwood (August 7th).

Enjoy contemporary and square dancing: Students from The Dance Institute of Washington, DC’s leading minority-led dance equity organization, perform on Hillwood’s Lunar Lawn (August 13). And learn the dos and don’ts of the do-si-do at a free Peirce Mill square dance (August 23).
