Avalon’s Wednesday Signature Series

October 15, 2014

avalon theater signWe’d like to suggest making Wednesday night a movie night.

The Avalon Theatre, our local non-profit movie theater, now features documentaries and high-quality independent films most Wednesdays. Many of these films have not gotten the airing they deserve. The programs often include discussions with the filmmakers.

If you haven’t checked out the Avalon lately, learn more about its Wednesday night Signature Series. Here’s more information from the Avalon’s Sarah Pokempner:

Held only at the Avalon Theatre, the Wednesday Signature Series is a group of six rotating programs that showcase unique films from around the world. Screenings are held on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 p.m. in our historic downstairs theater.

  • Avalon Docs features provocative and timely documentaries that explore fascinating true-life stories. Screenings are held every other 1st Wednesday, in February, April, June, August, October and December.
  • Film in Focus features filmmakers who are invited to present their films and explore them with the audience in a lively post-show discussion. Screenings are held every other 2nd Wednesday, in January, March, May, July, September and November.
  • French Cinematheque is a showcase of contemporary French cinema, presented in partnership with the Cultural Service of the Embassy of France. Screenings are held every 3rd Wednesday at the Avalon and every 2nd Wednesday at the Embassy of France.
  • Programmer’s Choice presents independent films worthy of wider exposure, selected by the Avalon’s Director of Programming. Screenings are held every other 1st Wednesday, in January, March, May, July, September and November.
  • Lions of Czech Films offers recent award-winning and popular Czech films, presented in partnership with the Embassy of the Czech Republic. Screenings are held every other 2nd Wednesday, in February, April, June, August, October and December.
  • Reel Israel DC features dramatic, thought-provoking films from Israel, presented in partnership with the Embassy of Israel and the Washington Jewish Film Festival. Screenings are held every 4th Wednesday.

The Avalon’s website provides all the details on the Wednesday Signature Series as well as regular programming.
