As we approach autumn, here’s a reminder of the bounty of summer: a half-dozen butterfly photos from June through September, and from three of my favorite parks.
Forest Hills Connection has posted my photos from two of those parks, Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, Virginia, and Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, right in the District of Columbia.
I’ve discovered the third park only in the last month: Patuxent Research Refuge in Laurel, Maryland; more than 12,000 acres of forest, ponds, and marshes. Its North Tract permit center has a half-dozen bird feeders that draw a steady stream of hummingbirds, American goldfinches, and other birds.
Patuxent is worth exploring – and it hosts a Monarch Festival each September!
