Backyard Nature: 🎶Doe, a Deer, a Female Deer🎶

Perhaps the darkest moment in animated movies is the death of Bambi’s mother. Perhaps the brightest moment in movie musicals is the song “Do-Re-Mi” in The Sound of Music.

And then there’s our backyard.

In the late afternoon on June 2, I watched a fawn wobble across the part of our yard farthest from our house and closest to Linnean Park. Where’s its mother?

A few minutes later, doe and fawn appeared together.

Editor’s note: Here’s what to do if you see a young fawn alone.

Wonderful images, David and FHC. The makings of a children’s book.
