Before the Soapstone trail’s March closure for the sewer rehabilitation project, it was a popular place to take a stroll.
And apparently, it still is. Minsuh Son, who can see the trail from her backyard, spotted two wild turkeys on the main trail last Friday.
This fellow’s female companion was just out of frame. Son says she has had several neighborhood turkey sightings, but “this is the first time I saw a pair just strolling down the middle of the trail. They’re enjoying the park closure.”
Last Sunday, Son reports, a hawk paid a visit to her yard. “My husband was able to get very close to it and it didn’t seem worried at all! We are loving all the wildlife action.”
Ann Matheson says
My balcony overlooks Soapstone on the western side. I made a recording of a pair of very unsettled turkeys iin Soapstone just before a thunder storm. It must have been the same pair. My Cornell Ornithology tape won’t release the recordings, but you could tell the turkeys were furious.
