A heads up to Metro riders: For about two weeks after Thanksgiving, even rush hour Red Line trains will be running only about once every five minutes.
Expect trains to be more crowded than usual, says Metro, due to track work between Saturday, November 25th and Sunday, December 10th. During peak hours, (5 to 9:30 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.) trains will run every five minutes between Grosvenor and NoMa stations instead of the usual four. During off-peak hours up until 9:30 p.m., trains will run on usual schedule. And after 9:30 p.m., trains will run every 15 minutes.
Metro is replacing a mainline interlocking where trains cross from one track the other. This work covers a four-mile section of track, and will be so disruptive that travelers who normally use the Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton or Glenmont stations are being encouraged to use other Metro stations, or find other means to travel. The Takoma station will be closed.
There will be free limited shuttle buses between Silver Spring, Takoma and Fort Totten Stations. Metro has more details on the work and disruptions here.
This week, Red Line travelers are contending with weeknight single tracking between Medical Center and Grosvenor through Thursday, and a weekend shutdown in the same area on November 18th and 19th.
The next close-to-home work impacting travel on the Red Line is weekend single tracking between Farragut North and Judiciary Square from December 16th and 17th. Here’s more information on track work scheduled on all the lines.

will there be any shuttle buses
Tracy J. says
It looks like the shuttle buses are limited to Silver Spring -> Fort Totten and back. It would be nice if Metro could add some express bus service during rush hours at least along the rest of the line.
