Broad Branch Road was blocked for drivers, cyclists and hikers alike on Tuesday morning

For a time on Tuesday morning, it didn’t matter whether you were moving on two legs, two wheels or four. It wasn’t possible to get to Broad Branch Road north of Ridge Road.

A tree had come down near the Soapstone Creek culvert. The road was also blocked off at Davenport. And there no way for cars coming from Brandywine Street to go north or south. Ridge Road was open to provide access to Davenport Street (via Grant Road) and Military Road.

Rain and windstorms can bring down trees and limbs, blocking roads. Plus, during and immediately after heavy rains, this can happen.

So proceed with caution and check your traffic app before heading out.

Meanwhile, to the south, continue to be on the lookout for road and trail closures and detours due to the ongoing rehabilitation of the 3.7 mile Rock Creek Park trail. For those interested in the project’s progress, there is a virtual public meeting on Thursday, September 9th at 6:30 p.m.
