Broad Branch Stream Progress: Early March Snapshot

March 6, 2014 by FHC

Marlene Berlin can’t seem to tear herself away from the site of the Broad Branch stream daylighting project, which started last month:

A Bobcat and two other pieces of excavation equipment, maybe backhoes (not my strong suit), have been hard at work building a wide path covered by what were once large mounds of mulch.

The path parallels Broad Branch Road and ends at an iced-over pool of water blocked by the old bricked-up culvert for the Broad Branch stream:

This creek has long been piped underground but will soon to be brought to the surface for all of us to enjoy.

Does anyone know what the final budget for this project is? How it is funded (District vs. Federal fund)? Does the work on private property — i.e., the Peruvian grounds — get reimbursed by the private landholder back to the District and/or Federal funding source?
