Business in Brief: Driver strikes I’m Eddie Cano streatery; Super Bowl specials; P&P’s year in books; Bernie is everywhere

January 26, 2021

I’m Eddie Cano streatery struck

Saturday afternoon, someone drove a van into the northern section of the temporary streatery outside I’m Eddie Cano and Rosemary Bistro Cafe (5014 and 5010 Connecticut Avenue). No one was hurt, but the crash put I’m Eddie Cano’s tents and street seating out of commission.

Here’s what the streatery looked like in mid-December:

Pop-up game day food at Bread Furst

Pizza, cheesesteaks, nachos and wings aren’t Bread Furst’s usual fare. But during a one-day Super Bowl Sunday pop-up called “Alfredo’s Italia,” the cafe at 4434 Connecticut will serve those items from 2 to 9 p.m. The nachos on the menu are from “the Ventnor recipe,” a nod to Ventnor Sports Cafe. The Adams Morgan sports bar closed in 2018 after 14 years, and its owner was Scott Auslander, Bread Furst’s director of sales.

Other Super Bowl specials

You’ll find cheesesteaks, pizza and wings at Tesoro Trattoria & Pizzeria (4400 Connecticut). The restaurant is encouraging customers to call (202-363-6100) or email ([email protected]) orders now for pickup on game day.

Uptown Market (4465 Connecticut) also has a special game day menu. And if wings and pizza aren’t your thing, Tesoro, Uptown and other local shops and restaurants offer a variety of cuisines and are standing by to serve you.

Five new Tenleytown restaurants opening in 2021

And those five now include Five Guys.

Tenleytown Main Street confirmed the addition in its January 4th email update. The organization also said Le Kavacha Bistro would move into the former Olive Bistro (4619 41st Street). Roaming Rooster, Sol Mexican Grill, and Squisito Pizza & Pasta are also opening Tenleytown locations this year.

Our year in books

Politics and Prose is out with its 2020 bestseller list.

Solve the Middle C Music puzzle

The December 31st edition of The Washington Post’s “spot the difference” puzzle for the grownup set features a photo of Middle C Music (4530 Wisconsin Avenue). Can you find all 12 differences without checking the answers?

Bernie is everywhere

Senator Bernie Sanders has become quite the man about town since Inauguration Day photos of the man and his mittens went viral. Here he is hanging out at some local spots.
