A new Indian restaurant has moved into the former Laliguras at 4221B Connecticut Avenue. It’s called Tikka. It serves North Indian and Nepali food. And it opened for business on February 3rd.
Tikka’s opening day arrived quickly, too. The work likely began months before the alcohol license placards appeared on the windows in January (when we first learned of the restaurant). Even so, Tikka breaks speed records compared to two other Van Ness restaurants heading for 2025 openings, Dog Haus and The Whale Tea. They signed their 4340 Connecticut leases in mid 2023.
Tikka’s chef, Suman Pradhan, cooked previously for Tikka Masala in Bethesda and Indian Wok in Frederick. The restaurant’s grand opening celebration will last all month, with discounts of as much as 15 percent on all menu items.
Also celebrating its grand opening: Mr. Green, the new medical cannabis dispensary at 4302 Connecticut.
More about our new gas station restaurant: Nash & Smashed, which opened late last year at the Connecticut and Nebraska Avenue Exxon, is part of an area chain. Bethesda Magazine covered the opening of another location in Silver Spring, and explained the name discrepancies we were seeing in the eatery’s signage and online presence. The chain originally called itself Nash & Smash, but the name is changing to avoid conflicts with similarly named brands. The owner is also opening an outpost in the UK.
A jambon beurre how-to: Bread Furst’s Mark Furstenberg was on WETA’s Signature Dish to demonstrate the making of this classic French sandwich.
A visual feast: Some of the options on Shemali’s new carryout menu.

Is the cannabis only medicinal?

In theory it is, since they still haven’t set up recreational shops and are allegedly cracking down on the gifting shops. But who knows.
