Van Ness landlords are chipping away at retail vacancies. Rosedale recently opened at 4465 Connecticut Avenue, leaving Saul Centers with one final ground floor space to fill at Park Van Ness.
UDC said at the Nov. 7th Community-Campus Task Force Meeting that a third business is in talks to join Chick-fil-A and Fuddruckers in the Student Center. The university is also shopping the former Charlie Chiang’s/Chalin’s at the north end of 4250 Connecticut to prospective tenants, and it continues to seek a tenant for the last remaining storefront for lease at 4340 Connecticut: the Van Ness Main Street office.
What we haven’t heard is if any prospective buyers are interested in the former Burger King. There’s no word from Douglas Development about plans for the former Laliguras at 4221-B Connecticut.
And the latest from MOM’s Organic Market at 4250? “Best guess is February” for its opening, MOM’s founder Scott Nash told Forest Hills Connection in an email.
At least we have Nash’s pinball machine collection nearby. The recently opened VÜK pinball arcade in Friendship Heights houses around 40 of his machines. And yes, you can play them.
Back to Rosedale: Chef Frank Ruta wants us to know that “farm to table” may be cliche, but most of the main ingredients come from farms in Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Eater DC also reports that the restaurant has been consistently buzzing with guests since it opened.
That we can confirm, but we are not sure about other Eater assertions. One is that Rosedale will be the only Van Ness restaurant with dine-in brunch. Sfoglina Pasta House would like a word. The other is this: “Rosedale is the only [Van Ness] spot offering seasonal American cuisine.” While technically true, this “highly residential area with a scarce number of restaurants” has another collection of eateries just a few blocks to the north, where you will find another seasonal American restaurant: Buck’s Fishing & Camping. And Muchas Gracias and Rosemary Bistro Cafe serve brunch.
Open on Thanksgiving: Here’s what we know so far: Calvert Woodley (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and Bread Furst (8 a.m. to 12 p.m.). Sfoglina is serving dinner. What have we missed?

Mom’s Organic should probably shoot for sometime closer to 2030 after their initial opening date of summer 2022.
