DC Water is replacing 31 dead Soapstone Trail trees

December 6, 2024

by Marlene Berlin

The number one question our readers ask us is: When will MOM’s Organic Market open? Perhaps the second most-asked question is: What’s the deal with the dead trees on the reopened Soapstone Trail?

One of the dead trees in late September.

The trees were planted fairly recently as part of the Soapstone sewer rehabilitation project. And they are being replaced.

I saw some of that work being done the Monday before Thanksgiving. Workers were digging up dead trees and planting new ones in their place.

DC Water tells Forest Hills Connection that in coordination with the National Park Service arborist, the contractor is replacing 31 dead trees. Another 25 are being planted at the arborist’s request.
