Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina: UDC digital media program is hosting a special screening of National Geographic’s “Hurricane Katrina: Race Against Time,” a documentary series that recently won a Critics Choice Award for Best Historical Documentary. The screening of the third episode will take place Tuesday, December 2nd at 10 a.m. at the UDC Theater of the Arts, and will feature a Q&A with the director, Traci A. Curry.
More than century after “The Great Christmas Boycott”: A new book by author and historian Scott Seligman’s explores the New York Jewish community’s 1906 boycott of public school Christmas pageants, the aftermath, and the protest’s links to present-day culture wars. Seligman, a neighbor, is discussing his book on December 9th at the Cleveland Park Library.
Gifts, handmade by you or your kids: At Friends of Peirce Mill’s December 6th Winter Workshop, learn how to make candles and paper silhouette portraits. These are free, all-ages activities. The mill is also open every weekend this month from noon to 4 p.m.

More than two dozen Made-in-DC vendors and the Carpe Librum used books and music sale will be lined up inside and outside 4340 Connecticut Avenue. A jazzy celebration of the season: The UDC music program’s annual gift to the community is its holiday concert featuring the UDC Chorale and its jazz ensemble. The free event, at the university’s Theater of the Arts, begins at 7:30 p.m. on December 10th.
