Eat, drink, be merry and shop local: Holiday specials in the neighborhood

December 13, 2018 by FHC

Shopping

The weekend of December 15th and 16th will be the Ibhana Boutique pop-up’s last of 2018 (and we hope it will return in 2019). It’s holding a 50 percent off blowout sale on both days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 4340 Connecticut. And Olde City Farm & Garden will continue selling Christmas Trees outside from 12 to 5 p.m., as it has done the previous three weekends at the Van Ness Holiday Pop-Up Shop.

Enjoy live music while you shop at Politics and Prose on December 15th (a cappella by Reverb), 22nd (flautist Elsbeth Fager) and 23rd (Komitas Trio). Politics and Prose partnered with Washington Performing Arts’ Mars Urban Arts Initiative to bring in local performers.

On Saturday December 15th and 22nd, the Cleveland Park Business Association is hosting the Cleveland Park Holiday Artisans Market featuring local makers, artists and gourmet food retailers. Check out the the vendors list on the CPBA website. Vendors will be selling their products alongside the Cleveland Park farmers market in front of the Uptown Theater.

Food and drink

Bread Furst has a special Christmas menu, New Year’s Eve menu and holiday gift baskets available with advance order (at least 24 hours, or 48 hours for the gift baskets). The Christmas menu includes soups, salads and sides, traditional Christmas breads like stollen and panettone, and of course, holiday cookies, pies and bouce de noel.

Giving wine, but can’t decide? Read the guide to “Ultimate Gift Wines by Calvert Woodley‘s director of wine education, Ben Giliberti. And ahead of the New Year, there are two opportunities to try the bubbly before you buy at back-to-back Champagne tastings. The Louis Roederer and Roederer Estate Tasting is December 30th from 1 to 4 p.m. The Veuve Clicquot and Moet & Chandon Champagne tasting is December 31st fro 1 to 6 p.m.

Sfoglina will have Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve specials. I’m Eddie Cano is serving a four-course Feast of the Seven Fishes (reserve) on Christmas Eve and a New Year’s Eve dinner (reserve). The 9 p.m. seating will include an all-you-can-eat menu, a live and and a complimentary prosecco toast at midnight.

Some neighborhood specials are more seasonal than “‘Tis the Season.” Thai Pad‘s December special is Bangkok fish, which is tilapia sauteed with soybean paste, scallions, celery and yu chuy.

Next door, Italian Pizza Kitchen is offering a 10% discount coupon for customers who dine in, now through January 15.

In Cleveland Park, Nanny O’Briens will be open until midnight on Christmas Eve and will reopen on Christmas Day at 6 p.m. On December 31st, all are welcome for New Years Eve festivities, live music and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Or, welcome the New Year with a $4 Bloody Mary and mimosa on New Year’s Day.

There’s a lot here, but we’re sure we’re missing a few great meals and deals. Leave a comment below so your neighbors don’t miss out, either.
