Extra brief Business in Brief: Apparel pop-up shop; California wine tasting; Jazz at Acacia

May 31, 2018

All the upcoming events and news that can’t wait for the monthly business news roundup:

Fashion pop-up: Ibhana Boutique is opening a pop-up shop at Van Ness Main Street’s office (4340 Connecticut Avenue) on Fridays and Saturdays through August, and it begins this Friday, June 1st. Here you’ll find women’s casuals and separates, dresses, handbags, jewelry and more. The shop will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Jazz and kid-friendly happy hour: Acacia Bistro (4340 Connecticut) is hosting live jazz on Saturdays. The Craig Gildner Trio is booked for June 2nd and 9th, from 7 to 10 p.m. Here’s the Facebook event page.

Also on June 9th, Acacia is donating 20 percent of sales on the patio to Forest Hills Playground. This kid-friendly happy hour is from 3:30 to 6 p.m. RSVP on the Friends of Forest Hills Playground Facebook event page.

Knit in public: Another June 9th event is World Wide Knit in Public Day. And the local public gathering place for knitters and crocheters is Laliguras (4221 Connecticut), from 12 to 3 p.m. Return for dinner that day and every day through through August for 20 percent off your meal. The dinner special is for dine-in and takeout orders between 5 and 10 p.m.

Sample California wines: Calvert Woodley (4339 Connecticut) is holding another wine tasting event that, like its rosés tasting in April, is too big for its store. So on Wednesday, June 13th, head to the UDC Student Center (4200 Connecticut) from 5 to 7 p.m. to sample California reds and whites, a chardonnay, cabernets and a merlot. Eleven wines from Goldschmidt Vineyards will be featured, and you get to meet the owner, Nick Goldschmidt. Sign up and find more details on the wines here.

Wine and cheese fundraiser for Van Ness Main Street: Buy your tickets now for the June 23rd event at Park Van Ness (4455 Connecticut), or pay at the door. Enjoy cheese and wine from Calvert Woodley, baked goods from Bread Furst, and live music. And you’ll be supporting Van Ness Main Street’s efforts to boost local businesses and enliven the neighborhood.
