If you are a registered voter in the District, your ballot for the November 5th election will be arriving in the mail sometime in the next couple of weeks. We’re here to answer the “Who’s that?” question when you get to the “Advisory Neighborhood Commission” section of your ballot.
ANC commissioners are nonpartisan elected officials. They serve two-year, unpaid terms as representatives at the neighborhood level. Within each advisory neighborhood commission are single-member districts (SMDs) represented by one commissioner.
ANC 3F has six SMDs. Eight candidates are running for those seats. Forest Hills Connection asked each of them for statements, which are linked below:
ANC 3F01: Write-in candidates Amy Rofman and Sammy David Thumba
ANC 3F02: Sue Guzman
ANC 3F03: Mitch Baer (incumbent)
ANC 3F04: Claudette David (incumbent)
ANC 3F05: Adrian Jesus Iglesias (incumbent) and Nathaniel Bowman
ANC 3F06: Courtney Carlson (incumbent)
Depending on where you live, you will see one of these candidates, or two, or none on your ballot. But we believe it is important to learn about them all. The commissioners will be weighing in on issues that affect the entire ANC, and their resolutions will be granted “great weight” by DC government agencies.
