It’s the other most wonderful time of the year: When the local farmers markets return for a new season, and share their bounties of fresh produce, prepared foods, and so much more.
UDC Van Ness market
The UDC Van Ness farmers market reopens on April 29th, and its vendors will set up shop on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through November 18th outside the UDC Student Center at 4200 Connecticut Avenue. The market’s organizers, UDC CAUSES and National Latino Farmers & Ranchers, are promising live music, inspiring speakers and great food.
We hope to see a vendors list soon. New vendors are always welcome to apply, and should email vannessfarmersmarket@udc.edu or call 202-628-8833 for more information.
New Morning Farm market
Saturday, May 6th will see the return of the New Morning Farm market at Sheridan School (4400 36th St NW). The market’s hours through November are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and December to March from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Tuesday market, which is open from 3 to 7 p.m. will open sometime in June.
Cleveland Park farmers market
May 13th is opening day for the Cleveland Park farmers market, which will be open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Uptown Theater. And, it will be under new management. FreshFarm, the largest farmers market operator in the DC area, has taken over its operation.
The Cleveland Park Main Street, which is run by District Bridges, explained the change in a March 20th announcement:
When long-time market manager, Mary Ellen Koontz, announced she needed to take a step back after the 2022 season, District Bridges began looking at other options for running the market. FreshFarm immediately came to mind because of the strong organizational partnership already in place.
District Bridges and FreshFarm have actively partnered together in the Columbia Heights Civic Plaza for the past 5 years. They recently expanded their partnership through District Bridges’ ecosystem development work and funding from a DPR grant, supporting the Columbia Heights Farmers Market in hosting live music, incorporating programming into Columbia Heights Day, and more….
“We’re excited that the farmers market will continue to be a beloved gathering place each Saturday morning for people and pooches as well as activate public space, especially as we anticipate the end of construction,” says Cassandra Hetherington, District Bridges’ Cleveland Park Main Street Director.
Chevy Chase farmers market
This market, which is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays at Lafayette Elementary School (5701 Broad Branch Road), isn’t returning for the season… because it never left. The Chevy Chase farmers market is open year-round.

I recall New Morning Farm telling us at its last March market that it would be back on Saturday, May 6.
