Moonstruck and Mama Mia. Black Panther and Hidden Figures. One thing they have in common is that their protagonists persevere. Another: They’re among the picks for Van Ness Main Street and UDC’s upcoming “Movie Night in the Park” series at the UDC amphitheater.
There are a lot of details, most of them listed on the Eventbrite registration page, but here are a few highlights:
Perseverance is the theme for all seven films in this free outdoor movie series, which are:
- Moonstruck on June 23
- Moana on June 30
- Jurassic Park on July 14
- Mama Mia on July 21
- Black Panther on August 11
- Hidden Figures on August 18
- And Coco on September 24
Again, attendance is free, but registration at VNMSMovies.eventbrite.com is required.
Showtime is 9 p.m. and Van Ness Main Street is encouraging attendees to show up with a picnic (purchased from a nearby restaurant, of course) as early as 8 p.m. Other recommended items: picnic blankets and seat cushions. Masks are optional, and VNMS will have some on hand.
The event will provide for accessibility in a couple of ways – the front row will be reserved for wheelchair users and anyone unable to climb to the upper rows. And, English-language captions are available. Write to [email protected] to request them.
The event is free thanks to sponsors including Calvert Woodley Wine & Spirits (host sponsor), Superlative Events (technical sponsor) and Heidi Brown. And Van Ness Main Street is welcoming more. Find sponsorship details here and email [email protected] if interested.
Volunteers are also welcome. Van Ness Main Street is seeking volunteers to help people find their way to the amphitheater, and to otherwise make the movie nights run smoothly. Email [email protected] for a schedule of available volunteer shifts.
