The Hillwood Museum gardens have begun opening up.
Hillwood is admitting only members for now, and that welcome will be extended, for free, to frontline workers from Tuesday, June 9th through the end of the summer.
“Throughout this crisis, people are searching for spaces to find respite, rejuvenation, and diversion,” Hillwood Executive Director Kate Markert said in a statement. “Marjorie Merriweather Post understood that surrounding yourself with beauty was an important part of a healthy life and left Hillwood to inspire future generations. We are happy to once again offer a place of serenity to those looking for an oasis here in D.C. as they venture, safely, back out.”

Hillwood (at 4155 Linnean Avenue) is limiting the number of visitors and spacing out arrivals to ensure social distancing. It is also requiring visitors to wear masks. You can find information on its safety guidelines here.
The museum, gift shop and special exhibition remain closed to visitors. Hillwood says it will continue to evaluate when and how it can open more broadly.

We were there on Tuesday morning – what an oasis of calm, especially now. The staff was so welcoming and seemed genuinely pleased to see those who arrived. Their tables are spaced even beyond the recommended guidelines, so lunch outdoors was perfect! So happy to have their gardens available for a visit once more.
