FHC says
Council member Mary Cheh pointed out in a constituent email that none of the sites providing grab-and-go meals for students are in Ward 3, but there are many families in the ward in need of assistance. She is asking that families who are eligible for the “Free and Reduced Meals” program email Cheh’s Legislative Director, Michael Porcello at mporcello@dccouncil.us, or call her office at (202)724-8062 with the following information::
– If you would be interested in a Ward 3 meal distribution site.
– A general sense of where you live in Ward 3 (such as an address, neighborhood, or intersection). (“This will help us determine if there is a critical mass and what central location would be ideal for a potential site.”)
“I will present these answers to the City Administrator for his evaluation and will keep the community updated on his response,” Cheh said in the email.

It looks like this post can be updated with some good news. The list of sites providing meals for students has been expanded. Starting March 25, meals will be available at Wilson High School.

Georgetown Presbyterian Church has been working with Excel Academy, an all-girls public school in Ward 8, to make sure its families have access to food while many are facing challenges with employment. We’re collecting bags of groceries at the church and delivering. In our building, the Brandywine Apartments, our tenant association has started up an email link program called “Brandywine Cares: Neighbors Helping Neighbors,” in which we pair younger residents who are willing to run errands with older residents who cannot get out but need to get groceries, meals , and supplies. It is run by a volunteer coordinator
