The counter-protest this morning at Wilson against the Westboro Baptist Church drew hundreds. According to some reports, Wilson students and their supporters outnumbered WBC protesters by 10 to one.
Many local news outlets were there, but we thought we’d highlight the coverage of two of them. The Tenleytown D.C. blog, and The Wilson Beacon.
A Wilson senior who has two moms told the Beacon that the counter-protest means the world to him. Said another student: “It became not really about WBC, it’s become about bringing people together as community.”

Tenleytown D.C. noted the cheers as Wilson Principal Cahall walked through the counter-protesting crowd carrying a rainbow flag, and also the atmosphere of love and acceptance at the gathering. “Wilson students should be proud of the exemplary leadership they showed… Today, they made me proud to be a Tenleytown resident.”
