June 18th is World Wide Knit in Public Day. And there’s an event taking place right here in our neighborhood.
Laliguras is welcoming knitters from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18th, says organizer Mary Peckiconis. Knitters are welcome even if they don’t have supplies. “I will have some knitting ready to be knit and purled for those stopping by,” Peckiconis says.
Not a knitter? Also not a problem. Peckiconis will have supplies for new knitters and teach anyone who wants to learn.
You’ll find the knitters seated outside the restaurant at 4221 Connecticut Avenue, though they’ll head inside if it’s raining and the heat is unbearable. Still, Peckiconis says, “Some people think you can’t knit when it is hot, but I can knit all the time.”

Peckiconis’ Upper Northwest Knitters also meet twice a month at the Tenley-Friendship Library. Peckiconis always brings materials for beginners. See maryknit.com for information and dates.
