The artists, dancers and activities at this Saturday’s Van Ness Social Club

October 24, 2017 by FHC

The more we know about the Van Ness Social Club gathering this Saturday at the Van Ness Metro west entrance, the better it looks.

The free, all-ages event from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 28th features furniture created by artists Joseph Orzal and James Cole, as well as installation art by Katie Pumphrey.

We’re invited to move and groove: There’s yoga for kids and chair yoga for all ages and abilities. Learn the “Van Ness Shuffle” by choreographer Sarah Beth Oppenheim, and dance through the decades with performance artist Holly Bass.

Plus:

  • Cake walk
  • Neighbor bingo
  • Human chess
  • Prizes
  • DJ dance party
  • Ice cream
  •
“The Van Ness Social Club,” say the organizers at Van Ness Main Street and Pink Line Project, “is a new-fashioned town square and social gathering for you and your neighbors.”

This event is the first from “Create Van Ness” and the culmination of an AARP grant for making communities more livable for young and old.

It sounds to us like the 2016 Van Ness Art All Night event, when fire dancers lit up the plaza at 4250 Connecticut. This daytime event sounds no less enticing. We’re looking forward to hanging out with our neighbors while enjoying art, dance, games and ice cream.
