Make Broad Branch Stream and Rock Creek more beautiful April 9 and 23

If you missed the chance to help remove an invasive species from Broad Branch Stream in March, you have another opportunity in April. Rock Creek Conservancy is seeking volunteers for another invasive plant removal on Saturday, April 9th from 10 a.m. to noon. Find more details and register here.

About two dozen volunteers gathered at Linnean Avenue and Broad Branch Road on March 12th for the first of Rock Creek Conservancy’s Bush Honeysuckle Initiative events.

According to the conservancy:

Bush Honeysuckle is an incredibly adaptable and invasive bush that prevents the reforestation of cut or disturbed areas and prevents the reestablishment of native plants to restore the understory of Rock Creek Park.

Volunteers received direction from Rock Creek Conservancy John Maleri on how to remove the bush honeysuckle. This was the first event by the. Another 11 volunteers gathered at Broad Branch stream just behind Politics and Prose for more of the same on March 19th.
