UPDATED: March 17 & 18 public meetings address UDC’s future – and Burger King’s

March 12, 2020 by FHC

The March 18th update from UDC: The campus plan and community-campus task force meetings have been postponed until further notice.

The March 13th update from ANC 3F chairwoman Monika Nemeth:

Given the current state of affairs with the emergency, ANC 3F has decided that it is best to cancel the March 17 meeting out of an abundance of caution. The items on the March agenda shall roll over to the April agenda.

Also, we are extending the deadline for grant applications to April 21, 2020 as a result of this. We do plan to meet as scheduled in April on April 21; however, we will continue to monitor the situation and follow guidance from DC Government.

There are at least three meetings next Tuesday and Wednesday of interest and importance to the community.

ANC 3F’s monthly meeting is on Tuesday, March 17th. Representatives for the Burger King franchise at 4422 Connecticut Avenue will return with more information on its renovation plans, which include an outdoor patio. And for that, they will likely need a public space permit. Also on the agenda (below): a grant application for historic Peirce Mill. The mill is fundraising for the restoration of 19th century machinery that ran through all four floors.

And yes, the meeting is still on. “We are carefully monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19,” said ANC 3F Chairwoman Monika Nemeth. “The guidance from Mayor Bowser and the DC Government regarding public meetings is for us to continue business as usual; however, we will make adjustments if there is new guidance.”

The other meetings are occurring Wednesday, March 18th. To minimize group gatherings, UDC has rescheduled its Community-Campus Task Force meeting and the next Campus Plan community engagement meeting so they fall on the same day. They are also in the same location: the UDC Windows Lounge on the second floor of Building 38. UDC President Ron Mason and Chief Operating Officer Troy LeMaile-Stovall will attend the Community-Campus Task Force meeting, which starts at 6:30 p.m.

The Campus Plan meeting will immediately follow at 7:15 p.m. The university was planning to present the feedback it has received from stakeholder surveys (the public can weigh in here). However, some changes may be in store after community feedback about the February kickoff meeting.

Here is the ANC 3F agenda:
