The next single-member district in our Election 2024 series on the ANC 3F candidates is 3F04.
Like 3F01 and 3F02, this SMD is almost entirely residential, and most of its residents live in high-rise apartment and condo buildings. (You can learn if you are one of them by searching your street address at OpenANC.org.) Murch Elementary is also part of 3F04.
ANC 3F04’s current commissioner, Claudette David, is running for her third term in office. Here is her statement:
I am running for re-election to continue participating in our community’s progress. Since 2020, I have been an ANC commissioner. I have helped two residential buildings resolve overpayments to PEPCO. I helped another residential building end a community dispute over its cooling system being managed outside the building for a few years, disturbing neighbors. I have also helped strengthen the community’s relationship with MPD and we have seen changes, such as implementation of cameras and drop in crime. I have seen a shift in the community as it has gone through security fluctuation. It has been key to engage DC government officials. I have also helped make sure that we at least had quarterly meetings regarding housing issues that include relevant DC government agencies. Commissioner Huet was able to take the lead on that and make a lot of inroads.
One of the major things I hope to do during the next two years is fulfill an earlier goal of improving communications within the community. The commission when I started understood the need to include the UDC community and use more resources to make sure we reached community members where they are. We wanted to hire a communications person, a student from UDC, to manage our social accounts, create flyers and have a team to help disseminate flyers in the community as well. That takes a lot of effort and just did not come to fruition. There is a significant number of community members who are not connected with the ANC because we don’t meet people where they are as a Commission.
