Meet the Candidates: Monika Nemeth for ANC 3F06

September 24, 2020 by FHC

This is the final installment of our series on the candidates for ANC 3F. We started with the newcomers, publishing statements from Alexandria Appah in 3F02, Dipa Mehta in 3F03, Stan Wall in 3F04, Claudette David and Ryan Keefe in 3F05, and Matt Buechner in 3F07. We’re wrapping up the series with the two incumbents, David Cristeal of 3F01 and today, Monika Nemeth of 3F06.

Nemeth is the chair of ANC 3F. She is running unopposed for 3F06.

Residents of the single member district live in single-family and apartment homes. 3F06 also includes Murch Elementary and businesses on the west side of the 4400 and 5000 blocks of Connecticut Avenue.

Here is Monika Nemeth’s statement:

I am the current Commissioner for 3F06 and the Chair of ANC 3F. I am serving in my first term. I live on Alton Place on the corner of Alton and Reno Road and have been in my house for almost 18 years.

I grew up in NJ in a small family business environment. My parents had a couple of little mom and pop Hungarian restaurants. I know how hard it is to succeed in such a business. This year has certainly been very challenging for everyone, and I want to do all I can to help the small businesses in the Van Ness corridor thrive and succeed. I will also work with UDC to bring about the retail development which they have promised the community. It is time to fill the empty store fronts!

The Connecticut Ave. study is well underway from DDOT, and I support a future Connecticut Ave. configuration with protected bike lanes. Furthermore, as DC has gotten creative with DC Slow Streets and other streetscapes for outdoor dining and become more pedestrian friendly, I believe we should take the lessons learned from these temporary measures and incorporate them into permanent enhancements. It is good to spend time outdoors, and we should do things to make the experience better for everyone.

I have thoroughly enjoyed representing and serving my community, and I look forward to serving for another two years.
