Meet the Candidates: Sammy David Thumba, ANC 3F01

September 30, 2024

We at Forest Hills Connection publish a “Meet the Candidates” series every election season to familiarize you with the names you might see on the ballot for Advisory Neighborhood Commission… or can write in yourself.

Voters in ANC 3F01, for example, won’t see any names printed on that section of their ballots. However, two residents of the single-member district (SMD) have stepped up to run as write-in candidates, and we are beginning Election 2024 series with them: Amy Rofman and Sammy David Thumba.

The SMD they are running to represent, on the west side of Connecticut Avenue, is almost entirely residential. Sheridan School is the exception. Its residents live in detached houses, duplexes, high-rise apartments, condos and a co-op. (Not sure of your SMD? OpenANC.org is a good place to check.)

You can read Amy Rofman’s statement here. This is Sammy David Thumba’s statement:

I’m Sammy David Thumba, and I’m running for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) for 3F01 because I believe in building a community where families can thrive. My wife Linda and I, along with our two daughters, Samia and Leia, who attend Murch Elementary School, have come to love this neighborhood for its energy, diversity, and the genuine sense of connection we’ve felt since moving here just over a year ago.

While we’ve embraced the vibrant community spirit – from family outings at Forest Hills Park to chatting with neighbors over coffee at Bread Furst – there are focus areas that I believe I can support while serving our district. Speeding cars that ignore stop signs and the concern for pedestrian safety, especially as a parent of kids walking to school. Locked tennis courts that should be available for community use, and as a former business owner I also prioritize advocacy for small businesses because I understand the challenges of responding to patron needs while trying to thrive as a business.

But it’s not just about solving challenges, because this community has so many great activities, spaces, and places – it’s also about enhancing what already makes this place special. I want to ensure our neighborhood stays a safe, welcoming, and dynamic space for all of us. As your ANC Commissioner, I’ll prioritize safety, opportunities, and the sense of community that binds us together, while making sure your voices are heard and acted upon.

You can contact Sammy David Thumba at [email protected].
