The names on your November 3 election ballot shouldn’t be unfamiliar. This week and next, we’re helping you get to know the people running for a neighborhood body that carries “great weight” with DC agencies and leaders.
There are eight candidates for ANC 3F’s seven single member districts. So far we have published statements from the candidates for 3F02 and 3F03, Alexandria Appah and Dipa Mehta.
Next up: Stan Wall, who is running unopposed in 3F04.
I first moved into the City the year 2000, but I am a fairly new resident to Van Ness / Forest Hills, having moved to the area in December 2019. Over my 20 years in DC I have lived in the neighborhoods of Adams Morgan, Logan Circle, Foggy Bottom, U Street, and Capitol Hill. I moved to this area with my partner last year largely because we wanted to purchase a home in a community that combined Metro access, park access, and a walkable Main Street that would enable us to fulfill our daily needs without needing to get in a car.
In terms of background, I received my bachelor’s degree in architectural engineering followed by my MBA, where I focused in finance and real estate. I am currently a partner at a real estate and economic development advisory firm that seeks to make cities and urban areas work better for their citizens in an inclusive manner. I serve as a volunteer on the Board of the Downtown DC Foundation, which is focused on addressing homelessness in the downtown area as well improvement of public spaces such as the revitalization of Franklin Square Park which is currently under way. I also volunteer on the Board of Greater Greater Washington, a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization that brings people together online and offline to discuss, organize, and advocate for an inclusive, diverse, growing Washington, DC region where all people can choose to live in walkable urban communities.
I have very quickly come to love our neighborhood, but I have disappointed with the state of the commercial area around the Metro Station and I feel is not achieving its full potential nor fully serving the community. I look forward to working with my future ANC 3F colleagues, along with the City, UDC, Van Ness Main Street and other stakeholders to advance strategies to better activate and revitalize the commercial district. Beyond this particular area of focus, I hope that my neighbors here in single member district ANC 3F04 support me so that I can be your voice on the commission in advocating for those issues that are priorities for each of you.
