Meet your ANC candidates: Brett Grindrod, 3F02

October 14, 2014

We’re featuring the people who are running to serve on the most local of our local government: The advisory neighborhood commission for Forest Hills, Van Ness, North Cleveland Park and Wakefield.

ANC 3F has seven single member districts, and five of those have candidates on the ballot (see below for more on the two exceptions). ANC 3F02 is the only contested race. One month ago, we asked both candidates for their statements, and received this one from Brett Grindrod. He is challenging incumbent Karen Perry.

Brett GrindrodHi there! I am Brett Grindrod and I am running for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission in the 3F02 Single Member District, better known as Van Ness and part of the Forest Hills community.

I live in 3F02 with my girlfriend of 6 years, a kindergarten teacher at Murch Elementary. I am running to bring a fresh perspective to the neighborhood commission that represents you to the city on issues big and small. I want to improve how the ANC interacts and supports the community and I am asking for your vote on November 4th.

When elected, I will strengthen communication between residents and the ANC, build stronger relationships with community leaders, businesses and neighbors, and invest resources to make our neighborhood better. As a first step, I have created a website for 3F02 that informs residents about the commission and that works as an avenue of communication between residents and their Commissioner. The most important part of my job as your Commissioner is to be your voice to the D.C. Government. As the elected conduit to the city, I will listen and work with you to address your problems and needs.

ANC 3F 2013 cropI will also advocate for more investment in the neighborhood. ANC 3F02 is a vibrant, diverse and close-knit community that represents the best of the Forest Hills area. The neighborhood commission has over $100,000 ready to be spent on community improvements and I am committed to working with local organizations to utilize those resources in a responsible manner.

In closing, the best part of my campaign is getting to know all of my neighbors across 3F02. I ask for the opportunity to serve you and for your vote on November 4th.

Please note that no one is on the ballot for single member districts 3F05 or 3F07. If you have decided to run as a write-in candidate, please send your statement to [email protected].
