If you park on the street, you might find a pink flyer tucked under a windshield wiper sometime in the next few days. It’ll contain tips aimed at deterring thefts from autos.
Due to reports of suspicious activity, ANC 3F03 Commissioner Naomi Rutenberg reports that the DC Police are deploying an officer in Forest Hills. MPD will also be placing flyers on parked cars with reminders to remove all items from your vehicle and other tips. Mary Cheh also advises in an email:
We need to be vigilant, call 911 (not 311) whenever something looks suspicious, lock car and house doors, and perhaps use the MPD reimbursement program to get cameras. Usually it is one or two people doing most of the crimes, causing a spike. But once they are arrested, the crime plummets. But the police need our help.
Rutenberg also says MPD Lt. Valerie Steward will be at the ANC 3F meeting on March 20th at 7:30 p.m. to answer questions (the MPD update is the first item on the agenda after the meeting is called to order) and is willing to hold a community meeting if there is interest.
