As I was walking home last night, I saw a group of men with shovels walking up 30th Street – indeed, a rare sight. I hailed them to see if they had a business card or telephone number. Margery Elfin was at her front door and shouted to me that they do a great job. In fact, Salvadore Bautista, the leader of the group, dug the Elfins out a few years back when we had so much snow the city did not know where to put it.
I knocked on the doors of a few neighbors who had not started to tackle their walks so I could introduce them to Salvador. No one answered. But you should call him and mention that you live in Marge Elfin’s neighborhood: 301-370-0888.
If you know of others who are ready and willing to shovel, please leave a comment below.

Our teenage sons (3, when they are all here) would be happy to roll out their snow shovels for you! Paper routes don’t much seem to exist any more… so we like to encourage this sort of neighborhood involvement :). 202-360-0989, or 202-966-0599. Thanks!

We’re the other Jane and Daniel who have sons who can shovel! Our boys, Sammy and Moses, age 12, have gone out knocking on doors with shovels in hand more than once this winter. They’re willing and able. 202-365-5489

We aren’t a Jane and Daniel team, but we have 4 boys, 16, 13, 11 and 8. They all need work. 202 686 1862
thanks Marlene for posting a picture and writing about one of our shoveling boys – the 11 year old.
