What the local news and blogs have been saying about people and happenings in our neighborhood:
Quiznos closes: We noticed this location at 4481 Connecticut had closed in early March. So did an astute Popville.com reader. What did this franchise in? It could be any number of things, including Quiznos’ notoriously bad relationship with franchisees. The same Popville article notes progress on Bread Furst across the street, which brings us to…
When will Bread Furst open? In his latest blog post, the seemingly unflappable Mark Furstenberg expresses some frustration with delays in getting permits and work done. As he says, in this case, “getting there has not been half the fun.”
Where will the next Trader Joe’s land? Popville.com talks about rumors that one is coming to our neck of the woods. We know that most folks around here would be overjoyed to see one open its doors around here.
Little Red Fox: Know any baristas who kick all the you-know-what? It’s seeking to hire a “kick-ass barista.”
There’s gold in them thar Forest Hills: “North” Forest Hills is #4 of the 12 richest neighborhoods in the city, and #243 in the country with a median household income of $316,140, according to the Higley 1000 survey. Curbed.com notes that the neighborhood boundaries used in this case leave a lot to interpretation.

I went back and read the stats on Trader Joes…. I don’t think 28% is “most folks”, and a total of 582 responding is not a great sampling. I bet there are more than that in my building! I know I feel the loss of Office Depot greatly and would love for that to return. To my knowledge there is not another office supply retailer anywhere near us, (closest and easiest to get to that I know of is at 19th and L ST, NW) while we already have a Giant, Safeway and Brookville in the area. Also, I hope there will be an attempt to get a larger sampling of people to get a sense of what is needed in the neighborhood.
