This collection of news articles about our neighborhood, like the last one, has a particular focus. Unlike the last one, it is overwhelmingly positive. Glowing, even.
Such have been the media mentions of Fabio and Maria Trabbochi’s newest restaurant. Sfoglina opened in mid-December at 4455 Connecticut Avenue and it’s drawn quite a crowd since. At times, a sign at the door has said the restaurant can accommodate only patrons with reservations. (The completion of the enclosed patio area should help with that.)
Diners are perhaps drawn by articles such as these:
Writes The Washington Post’s Tom Sietsema: “If some of the nibbles and starters sound familiar, they taste fresh in the hands of chef Trabocchi. His roasted Sicilian red peppers blossom with orange zest and flowers, and his fiery ’nduja comes with chive-speckled streghe: hollow, finger-length crackers that originated in Bologna.”

Says BrightestYoungThings.com: “Let’s start with some undisputed facts: 1.) Fabio and Maria Trabocchi open outstanding restaurants; 2.) Fabio and Maria Trabocchi recently opened Sfoglina; thus, 3.) Sfoglina is destined to become an outstanding restaurant. After our first taste, it’s clear that the restaurant is well on its way.”

In The Washingtonian: “A few true splurges are also on tap—this wouldn’t be a Trabocchi restaurant without the option of Alba white truffles—though Fabio says the aim is to cater to a full spectrum of neighborhood customers. Families will find a special children’s menu, and the restaurant also sells fresh pastas and sauces for quick home cooking.”
DCist says Sfoglina “brings a jolt to the Upper Northwest dining scene.”
Sfoglina even made USA Today’s list of the nation’s notable restaurant openings of 2016 (#14 in the slideshow).

And Van Ness-based Cook In/Dine Out says “Both of the pastas we ordered were absolute stunners.”
Have you tried Sfoglina’s fare? We know several of you have, and another neighbor’s review is coming up molto presto. Ciao!
Glenn Ellmers says
Coincidentally, my BF and I just ate there last night for the first time. We shared the calamari and tuna tartare as appetizers. I had the pheasant for an entree. Everything was excellent!
