Neighborhood in the News: Whittle School expects to be punctual; A Broad Branch rescue; Rock ‘n roll Burger King still here

Whittle School won’t be late for class, says its founder: Chris Whittle tells Washington Business Journal that the private international school will remain on track for its scheduled September 5th opening despite the February 27 stop-work order at Whittle School/former Intelsat HQ. And he tells the London Telegraph that he plans to open 30 such schools by 2030.

WaPo on Wilson High’s name: The Washington Post joins the coverage following the forum at Wilson High School in February on a name change. And it follows up in more depth with descendants of black residents evicted from the neighborhood to make way for Wilson and Deal Schools and Reno Park.

This Burger King location is famous for its movie and rock ‘n roll décor.

Van Ness Burger King still rockin’: Its franchise owner told ANC 3F in August that the location would likely close within months. Eight months later, it’s still here… to PopVille’s delight.

One man and his snow stick: Thanks to Washingtonian, we now know why NBC4’s Pat Collins and his snow stick reported on Snowmaggedon 2010 from the BP at Connecticut and Fessenden.

Right place, right time: This is a more recent and more harrowing snowstorm tale. WTOP reporter Dave Dildine saved a woman from drowning where Broad Branch meets Rock Creek.

Van Ness is the punchline: Of Washingtonian’s mock trial of DC tourists who don’t know the “stand right/walk left” rules on Metro escalators. And that’s okay.
