Early October saw lots of activity at the former Uptown Market space at 4465 Connecticut Avenue, much of it unseen as the windows had been papered over. But on Thursday, the door was wide open and we could see materials from the dismantling of the interior streaming out to a U-Haul. All this is in preparation for what is coming next: a new restaurant from Bombay Club, Rasika and Sababa owner Ashok Bajaj.
Zach Friedlis, senior vice president and director of leasing for Saul Centers, Inc., said Bajaj’s Knightsbridge Restaurant Group will open a 3,900 square foot restaurant at this location, but he could not reveal the concept or when it might open.
The Bombay Club, Bajaj’s classic, white-tablecloth Indian restaurant, was his first in DC. He later opened Rasika for those wanting Indian food with a more modern flair. Over the years, Bajaj has branched out into more and varied cuisines, including Israeli restaurant Sababa in Cleveland Park, and Annabelle, a farm-to-table concept in Dupont Circle.

This is a very exciting update. Thank you again to the Forest Hills Connection for being on top of things, and to all who had a hand in Ashok bringing his magic to the Park Van Ness space. Let’s hope that he will be able to spill out onto the hardscape to bring additional vibrancy and connection.
